On March 8, 2020, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont announced the first laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 case in a Wilton man who was treated at Danbury Hospital.

Following the first case, what some thought was going to be a quick blip in history turned into a yearlong battle that has left thousands dead and even more with potentially permanent medical concerns.

A year later, there have now been COVID-19 cases reported in 285,330 Connecticut residents, including 265,709 laboratory-confirmed and 19,621 probable cases.

There are still 428 COVID-19 patients being treated in Connecticut hospitals, and there have been 7,704 virus-related deaths since the pandemic began.

As of Monday, March 8, a breakdown of confirmed COVID-19 cases by county:

Fairfield County: 81,783;
New Haven: 72,947;
Hartford: 71,020;
New London: 19,445;
Litchfield: 11,293;
Middlesex: 10,594;
Windham: 9,294;
Tolland: 7,294;
Unknown: 982.
